Manages, directs and coordinates the efforts of the Carthage Live Operations Division with Growers, third-party contractors, processing facilities, and the feed mill to safely produce a cost-efficient turkey of desired quality and volume for Butterball.

Essential Functions, Duties & Responsibilities

  • Supervises, assists and supports the live operations team in order to uniformly implement the company Best Management Practices.
  • Builds and maintains the trust and respect of the live operations team to work collectively together.
  • Maintains periodic contact with growers and intercedes as necessary to maintain a positive working relationship between growers and company. Informs senior management of any unresolved problems.
  • Communicates effectively with subordinates, peers, senior management, and contractors to ensure optimal performance and continuous improvement.
  • Liaison between company and third-party contractors and vendors/suppliers.
  • Complies with, promotes, and expects adherence to company biosecurity, food safety, and animal care and well-being programs.
  • Ensures implementation of veterinary recommendations for disease management and cleanup procedures.
  • Monitors spending and inventory; implements the live operations budget under an annual operating plan.
  • Manages farm and housing needs; coordinates and evaluates new contract grower requests.
  • Ensures compliance for and participates in periodic audits.
  • Works under general direction from broad goals and policies.
  • Resolves conflict and solves problems.
  • Leads and supports departmental engagement activities.
  • Supports research projects and opportunities for learning and improvement
  • Other duties and work details as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions .
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Ability to prepare reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume.
  • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.
  • Working knowledge of Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  • Valid Drivers License required.
  • Occasional night and weekend work.
  • Occasional travel out of state.

Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor's Degree in an applicable field with an emphasis on studies of Poultry Science preferred.
  • Directly related experience in live production and/or training. Previous experience in poultry grow out operations preferred.
  • Previous experience in management and supervisory duties

Physical Demands

  • Lift, handle, load, and unload supplies and materials up to 50 pounds
  • Maneuver on foot onto and through farms:
    • Through flocks of turkeys that may exceed 50 pounds in weight
    • Will include walking on outside surfaces that may be slippery due to inclement weather
    • Turkey houses with uneven litter surfaces, which may also be slippery
    • Climb/descend steps entering/exiting turkey houses, stepping over feedline equipment
    • Physically handling turkeys up to approximately 50 pounds
    • Can work in wet, cold, hot, dusty environments with appropriate PPE
    • Operation of company vehicle traveling to and from farms to conduct business
