Job Description

As a Mechanical Design Engineer III at Nidec Motion, you'll play a pivotal role in designing advanced mechanical solutions for Motion Control programs. From concept to production, you'll collaborate with a team of experienced design engineers to create products that meet strength, cost, and reliability requirements.

Responsibilities & Duties

  • Develop advanced mechanical designs for Motion Control programs, ensuring they meet strength, cost, and reliability requirements.
  • Utilize Creo to create 3D models and 2D drawings for production motor requirements.
  • Specify required tolerances and critical-to-quality features for components and assemblies.
  • Communicate proposed designs to cross-functional teams within and outside of Nidec.
  • Collaborate with external suppliers to optimize designs for tooled components.
  • Participate in First Piece Article inspection/APQP/PPAP processes for newly specified components.
  • Lead prototype builds and teardown analysis of new motors.
  • Conduct technical design reviews for newly developed solutions with cross-functional teams.
  • Drive new product development goals through self-initiative, leadership, and collaboration.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or related field; Master's degree preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in design engineering, with a focus on product development and electric motors.
  • Proficiency in Creo 3D CAD software solid modeling for new product designs.
  • Familiarity with tolerance analysis and exposure to structural FEA software (Ansys experience preferred).
  • Experience designing die castings and/or injection molded plastics.
  • Experience specifying ball bearings and/or gearing/gearboxes is a plus.
  • Strong design for manufacturability skills.
  • Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to interpret complex data, troubleshoot issues, and make informed decisions.
  • Effective communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to convey technical concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Strong collaborative mindset, with the ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and build positive relationships.
  • Creative problem-solving abilities, with a passion for innovation and continuous learning.
