Bachelor's degree in related field (area of specialty)
1 year teaching, learning, or training related experience

Minimum Qualification can be substituted with an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
Preferred qualifications:
Preference will be given to individuals who possess:
  • Two years experience in STEM education, and providing instructional support in two or more of the following subjects: mathematics, chemistry, physics, computer science, etc. There will be a strong emphasis on math tutoring.
  • Master's degree in related field preferred
  • Experience with College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) certification
  • Teaching experience or direct experience working with individualized instruction in higher education
  • Knowledge of current basic education theories
  • Knowledge of computer assisted instruction, word processing, and related computer applications/software.
  • Experience with Learning Center operations.
  • Experience supervising and/or taking a leadership role
  • A commitment to providing customer service and assessment of student needs.

Work Hours
Normally scheduled Monday through Friday; however, may be required to work other shifts to include evenings and/or weekends. Schedule subject to change based upon department needs.
Compensation Starting annual salary is $47,107 to $49,934. Competitive benefit package is included. Special Instructions to Applicants

Class Summary
Incumbents provide and coordinate instruction-related support to students in assigned learning areas such as reading, writing, mathematics, science, or social science.

Typical Essential Duties
This job description is intended to represent only the key areas of responsibilities; specific position assignments will vary depending on the business needs of the department.

-Screens, interviews, and recruits new tutors; and ensures adequate staffing levels to facilitate center operations.
-Coordinates tutor work schedules and operations of an assigned center, greets people, provides information, maintains the inventory to ensure that resources and other materials are available, and ensures that the center is clean.
-Provides training, information, and guidance to tutors, and monitors tutors' work to ensure that tutors are competent, and able to meet student goals and objectives.
-Monitors student progress; tutors and provides workshops and presentations to students, instructors, and other groups using established guidelines in the assigned area of operation; provides guidance to students in a one-on-one or group setting; assists students with creating academic improvement plans, using learning technology, and with enrollment and other processes; and provides financial and other information as needed.
-Reviews and maintains learning materials, including textbooks and worksheets; prepares supplemental learning materials; and prepares and maintains records; work may involve utilizing systems and databases to record information, and reviewing information to improve current operations.
-Communicates with faculty, staff, counselors, and/or other relevant personnel/departments to improve learning support services, determine student progress, resolve issues, and provide assistance; ensures that all operations performed are in accordance with applicable guidelines and procedures.
-Performs other duties of a similar nature or level.

Physical Requirements
Positions in this class typically require: reaching, standing, walking, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work: Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or a negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Walking and standing are required only occasionally.
