You will have a assorted amount of work in the locksmith trade and you will have the opportunity to broaden your skillsets with the Campus facilities Department as you will work side by side with the skilled trades such as HVAC, electrical carpentry, and plumbing when needed. Job Description

Perform skilled work on a journey level involving the installation, maintenance, service and repair of a wide range of locking mechanisms, door closers and exit devices; and in the fabrication, issuance and accountability for keys for such equipment. Work is subject to spot checking and inspection for conformance to specifications and accepted standards of the trade. Functional contacts include co-workers, other service department employees, and other university staff and students.

Key Responsibilities:

* Install, maintain, repair, reset, adjust and/or replace all types of locking mechanisms and/or door closers

* Make keys from duplicate pattern keys on manually and automatically operated key cutting machines. Make keys manually from codes, by observing pin settings in locking devices and by impression models.

* May issue and receive keys. Maintain necessary access rosters and lists, card files, receipts and other records to account for keys issued, received, and maintained in key vault. Maintain file of combinations for combination locking devices

* As directed by proper authority, open locks for which no key is available, utilizing prescribed lock-picking procedures and lock-picking tools. May maintain and repair coin vending devices serviced by the university. May lock and unlock various rooms and offices as assigned.

* May perform or assist with preparation of cost estimates, material orders, reports and maintenance of records.

Minimum Qualifications

* High school graduate or equivalent; demonstrated skills may offset requirements and a minimum of 4-years of actual experience in the trade, including apprentice or vocational training.

* Knowledge and skill in the maintenance and use of tools, equipment and materials of the trade.

* Manual dexterity and physical coordination.

* Access to keys and ability to open locks requires a person of appropriate character.

* Valid driver's license required.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Commensurate with education, experience, and internal equity.
