Job Summary:
As an 8-C Press Operator you will direct the crew and perform manual and machine operator tasks related to the set-up, maintenance, and operations of the press. You will be responsible for training crew members, maintaining all training programs for the press and assisting in inventory control. The 8-C Press Operator has jurisdiction over their press line and the pressmen who assist in running the press and folder on their shift.
Essential Functions:
- Manually set up machine for job specifications.
- Operate and troubleshoot machine.
- Ensure that production goals are met.
- Direct assigned crew members.
- Works with crewmembers in operation of press and folder, cleaning and maintaining equipment, changing paper rolls, ensuring maintenance activities are thoroughly reported and documented.
- Consistently inspects for and maintains a high quality of work.
- Responsible to see that all running samples are pulled, inspected, and initialed.
- Ensure sample copies are of the highest quality.
- Assumes direct responsibility in enforcing and administrating all SOPs for themselves and Direct Reports and makes suggestions on changes to procedures when appropriate.
- Verifies press counts by checking Autocount to the counters and initials packing slips.
- Assumes responsibility to ensure all Autocount printouts and computer entries are correct and accurate regardless of if those entries are by themselves or by a Direct Report assigned to them.
- Ensures the machine is kept clean during production runs and down time, using the resources of people efficiently as well as instructing Direct Reports on required duties.
- Checks skid flags to make sure they are properly filled out.
- Assumes direct responsibility to enforce all safety procedures by all Direct Reports and themselves such as: PPEs, ergonomics, chemical hazards, etc. and performs these duties in a manner that protects the health and safety of all employees. Maintains a rotation among crewmembers to each workstation on the press for both training and ergonomic reasons.
- Ensures rotation between crew members to different tasks throughout shift.
- Assigns and directs the work of the pressmen and take-off personnel on the crew.
- Administer all maintenance programs, tasks, and associated paperwork.
- Trains crewmembers on new items or procedures.
- Follows the department's maintenance program when maintenance is being conducted.
- Ensures all crewmembers read, understand, and follow the entire work order of every job and that all discrepancies are resolved.
- Successfully complete the department's training program and work with crewmembers to ensure they also successfully complete the training.
- Assumes direct responsibility to ensure their press has all required resources. This includes everything from supplies to personnel and reports any shortages of these resources to the Supervisor.
- Responsible for all Direct Report's evaluations with the assistance from the Supervisor.
- Elevates unresolved or continuing problems to the Supervisor.

Working Conditions/Physical Demands:
- Must be able to lift and move materials weighing between 30 and 75 pounds.
- Must be able to use hands for a variety of repetitive material handling tasks about 90% of an 8-hour shift constantly.
- Kneel and squat to do work on an occasional basis.
- Must be able to constantly stand for up to 8 hours.
- Must be able to climb steps on a frequent basis.
- Use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects or use controls, tools or equipment.
- May require the ability to use a keyboard and other office equipment.
- May require specific vision abilities that include close vision.
- May be required to perform concentrated work for extended periods of time.
- May be required to lift, carry or exert items or objects of reasonable weight.
- May be required to perform duties beyond standard business hours.
Minimum Requirements:
- High School Diploma and four years' experience in press operations.
