Job Description

Reporting to the Director of Student Advocacy, the Manager of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity serves as the Primary Administrative designee for Student Affairs. This role investigates and adjudicates alleged violations of the Student Standard of Conduct, including cases of academic dishonesty and behavior misconduct by individual students or student organizations.

The Manager of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity develops sanctions for students and student organizations found in violation of university policies which promote personal and educational development and maintains university standards.
The Manager of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity refers and presents cases to the Student Conduct Committee or Academic Integrity Committee as needed, and they are responsible for the daily operations of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity programs in conjunction with the Director of Student Advocacy.

As an integral member of the Division of Student Affairs, the Manager of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity is also charged with supporting students through referrals to university resources and working in concert with campus partners to resolve student concerns as appropriate. This position actively participates in outreach and liaison activities for campus stakeholders, including students, faculty, and staff. The ideal candidate should have a welcoming and professional presence that is characterized by highly ethical practices and a commitment to inclusive, openness, flexibility, and thoughtfulness.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee the investigation and adjudication of behavioral misconduct and/or academic integrity matters. Interprets and administers the Student Code of Conduct and student conduct and academic integrity processes.
  • Ensure policy and processes afford fundamental fairness, timeliness, and due process. Review and recommend policy revisions.
  • Monitor the completion of post-adjudication action plans with students involved in student conduct or academic integrity processes and identify effective interventions.
  • Conduct information sessions and serve as a hearing officer for informal and formal hearings. Prepare related correspondence and maintains the confidentiality of student conduct records in accordance with federal, state, and university regulations.
  • Manage the Student Conduct Committee (SCC) comprised of faculty, staff, and students, including recruiting members, conducting interviews, and scheduling SCC hearings as the need arises. Develop and facilitate trainings for Student Conduct Committee members.
  • Develop and apply effective sanctions that emphasize education, student development and responsible behavior. Initiate referrals when appropriate to resources/departments on campus.
  • Serve as a liaison with the Office of the Registrar to ensure appropriate holds are assigned for student conduct and academic integrity matters in a timely manner.
  • Serve as point of contact and liaison to local law enforcement, including University Police and off-campus agencies.
  • Assist Residential Life and Housing in training student staff on the conduct process and their role and responsibilities as resident assistants, desk assistants, etc. Serve as the student conduct liaison to the university P3 housing partner, University Meadows, and assist in training of their student and professional staff on the conduct process.
  • Maintain program files, data files and records for the purposes of data management and reporting. Track sanctions and conduct investigations as necessary. Provide follow-up contact with students as needed.
  • Facilitate and assist in the development of workshops for the university community, including but not limited to, the topics of ethics, personal decision making, academic misconduct, behavioral misconduct, and the conduct process. Provide educational outreach and materials to campus constituents focused on student rights and responsibilities, academic integrity, and university processes and procedures for reporting potential misconduct.
  • Assist with annual statistical and informational reports and review of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity, inclusive of policies and procedures of the Office of Student Conduct and Academic Integrity.
  • Oversee compliance tasks of university Safe and Drug Free Schools Act in collaboration with Missouri Partners in Prevention
  • Serve as a care member of the UMSL CARE Team. Serve on departmental and university related committees as applicable, work cooperatively with colleagues on campus, and serve as a liaison to the campus and greater community.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge and information regarding relevant law, regulations, and regulatory guidance. Research trends and assist with the implementation of best practices related to student conduct and academic integrity. Collect and analyze data and prepare reports as needed upon university or another agency request.
  • Contribute to the overall success of the Division of Student Affairs by performing other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 4 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary

Preferred Qualifications
  • Advanced Degree - Masters in higher education, public policy, social work, counseling, student personnel, or other related field
  • At least two years of full-time professional experience working with post-secondary students.
  • Professional experience investigating complaints, concerns, or other behavioral misconduct or academic integrity issues
  • Commitment to and knowledge of equity, diversity, inclusion, and trauma informed practices.
  • Commitment to the highest ethical and professional standards; professional integrity and maturity, high quality/standard of work, discretion and ability to maintain confidentiality.
  • Strong written and oral communication with experience facilitating dialogue in diverse settings and the ability to manage difficult conversations
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to set priorities, coordinate multiple projects and investigations with time-sensitive deadlines.

Anticipated Hiring Range

Pay commensurate with education and experience.
Hiring Range: $57,000 - $59,771 Annual
Grade: GGS-9E
