Job Description

Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T), one of the world's leading technological research universities, seeks a dynamic and creative Interlibrary Loan and Reserves Librarian. Reporting to the Dean of Libraries the Interlibrary Loan and Reserves Librarian provides leadership and management of the interlibrary lending and borrowing and course reserves operations. The librarian develops policies, procedures and workflows for the interlibrary loan and reserves operations including copyright compliance and routine statistical reporting. Additionally, the Interlibrary Loan and Reserves Librarian assesses existing operations and implements new services to meet the University's research, teaching, and learning needs.

The librarian supervises both full-time staff and part-time student employees. As a supervisor the librarian is responsible for training and professional development of all direct reports; analyzes and evaluating work processes and workflows; creating/maintaining manuals and documentation; providing verbal and written feedback to employees including performance evaluations; monitoring quality and quantity of work; leading departmental meetings; and providing materials and support for staff.

Other duties include coordinating activities with other library units; planning and supervising major projects; serving on various committees and teams; serving as site coordinator for systems we share across the University of Missouri System; and participating in regional and national library organizations as appropriate and shares expertise with colleagues.

  • Responsible for the administration of ILLiad, RapidILL, and other systems related to interlibrary loan and reserves processing and management
  • Plans, oversees, and evaluates the daily operations of interlibrary loan and reserves services
  • Maintains the fiscal integrity of the interlibrary loan process
  • Resolves satisfactorily problems relating to interlibrary loan, reserves, and copyright issues
  • Collects and analyzes data for patterns and trends that suggest needed change and anticipate future actions
  • Evaluates resource alternatives in terms of cost effectiveness, services quality, and larger institutional priorities
  • Promotes and seeks growth opportunities for interlibrary loan and reserve services
  • Coordinates high level communications regarding interlibrary loan and reserves policies and procedures with library users, academic units, and external institutions participating in interlibrary loan and reserve services
  • Builds relationships with other institutions, and coordinates actions with libraries within the University of Missouri System, the state of Missouri, and nationally
  • Represents the University in facilitating interlibrary loan cooperation through reciprocal interlibrary loan agreements with other institutions and through cooperative arrangements
  • Maintains statistics and prepares reports related to interlibrary loan and reserves
  • Keeps the Dean apprised of current issues and developments in the field of interlibrary loan
  • Participates in library planning, including developing unit and project goals, priorities, and procedures
  • Develops procedures, sets priorities, assigns work activities, and monitors workflow within assigned areas
  • Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates staff. Ensures that personnel policies are correctly and consistently carried out
  • Works with staff to develop and follow personalized professional development plans
  • Contributes to grant proposals as appropriate based on library priorities
  • Actively participates in professional development activities including committees, regional and national organizations, research and publishing, and other professional development opportunities
  • Performs additional job duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum:

  • ALA-accredited Master's degree in library/information science or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline by time of appointment
  • Knowledge of contemporary bibliographic-maintenance standards and practice, including the Anglo-American cataloging rules, Library of Congress Classification, Library of Congress subject headings, and OCLC/MARC records
  • Knowledge of, or familiarity with the role of interlibrary loan and reserve services in an academic library environment
  • Familiarity with technologies used in an academic library
  • Evidence of leadership ability and skills
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal skills to establish and maintain close, productive working relationships with colleagues
  • Demonstrated initiative, flexibility, and ability to work creatively, effectively, independently, and as a team member
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills and the ability to speak to a wide range of audiences, such as faculty, students, scholars, donors, development staff, alumni, and the public
    Awareness of emerging trends in librarianship and the landscape of higher education
  • Ability to exercise mature independent judgment
  • Ability to meet the requirements of the University's promotion guidelines for non-tenure track faculty

Preferred:

  • Experience with ILLiad
  • Familiarity with RapidILL and OCLC Worldshare
  • Knowledge of Interlibrary Loan and Reserves copyright issues
  • Experience with integrated library systems; familiarity with FOLIO and EDS desirable
  • Experience with course management systems, familiarity with Canvas desirable
  • Commitment to fostering a diverse and inclusive learning and working environment
  • Supervisory experience
  • Experience managing projects, with ability to effectively manage competing priorities and work collaboratively across organizational boundaries
  • Demonstrated record of publication and professional contributions
Anticipated Hiring Range

Minimum: $48,000 Annually

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
