Staff Chemist

MRIGlobal is seeking a highly motivated person to join our Integrated Defense Solutions Business Unit as a Staff Chemist. The Staff Chemist will be an integral part of our team supporting and directing research and development laboratory activities, while gaining a thorough understanding of relevant federal and commercial programs, QA/Safety/SOPs, and analytical instrumentation. Primary assignments will include (1) performing method development, (2) standard and sample preparation, (3) sample analysis using Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (MS) and Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS), (4) performing task leadership for small projects and tasks for large projects, (5) preparation of research reports, including collection and organization of experimental data and literature searches. The position requires the ability to work with chemical agents and other toxic chemicals while adhering to strict safety and procedural protocols. This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance. In order to meet the government security investigation requirements, U.S. citizenship is a requirement.

Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  • Direct and/or perform various standard preparation, sample preparation, and sample analysis tasks.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot a variety of analytical instrumentation to include one or more of the following:
    • Gas Chromatography Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS)
    • Gas Chromatography - High Resolution Mass Spectrometry (GC-HRMS)
    • Liquid Chromatography - Mass Spectrometry / Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS/MS)
  • Development of analytical methods.
  • Prepare Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
  • Perform technical reviews of analytical data and reports.
  • Writes or contributes to technical proposals, reports, and/or papers for publication or presentation with clear results and concise, well supported conclusions.
  • Interact with Clients to provide updates and summary of testing results.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or related field; M.S. in Chemistry or related field, and a minimum 3 years of related experience; B.S. in Chemistry or related field, minimum 6 -8 years of related experience; or appropriate combination of education and experience.
  • Willing to assume responsibility for laboratory areas to meet all safety and security requirements.
  • Leadership abilities with strong organizational skills, problem solving aptitude, and adaptability to changing priorities.
  • Ability to effectively communicate and interact with technical staff at all levels in a team-based environment, while working under pressure and managing multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Demonstrate creative problem resolution; meets client expectations in a timely fashion.
  • Maintain legible and logical laboratory records documentation.
  • PC skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Project, and Outlook) and ability to learn new software and systems.
  • Current government security clearance or ability to obtain and maintain a government security clearance.
  • U.S. citizenship.
