Job Description

The Technical and Electronic Services Librarian is a multifaceted role providing leadership in information technology, overseeing the implementation and maintenance of the library management system (FOLIO) and other automated systems, and coordinating electronic resources. In a supervisory capacity, the librarian manages both full-time staff and student employees, oversees training and development, evaluates work processes, and conducts performance assessments. Overall, this role demands technical expertise, managerial skills, collaboration, and a commitment to maintaining high cataloging standards while ensuring seamless access to electronic resources.

  • Responsible for all cataloging functions including managing or performing both original and copy cataloging, database maintenance, and all other related functions
  • Maintains electronic resource linkages and access and troubleshoot issues with electronic resources
  • Assists in the implementation, management, and enhancement of the library management systems
  • Hires, supervises, trains, and evaluates staff and assists staff to develop and follow personalized professional development plans
  • Participates in library management and planning, including developing unit and project goals, priorities, and procedures
  • Collaborates with colleagues and serves on committees, working groups and task forces both locally and within the university system
  • Actively participates in professional development activities including committees, regional and national organizations, research, grant proposals as appropriate based on library priorities and in alignment with promotion criteria
  • Performs additional job duties as assigned
Qualifications

Minimum:

  • ALA-accredited master's degree in library/information science or equivalent degree in a relevant discipline by time of appointment
  • Evidence of leadership ability and skills
  • Awareness of emerging trends in librarianship, library technical services, electronic resource management, and the landscape of higher education

Preferred:

  • A second graduate degree in a related discipline
  • Experience working with electronic resources or technical services in an academic library environment
  • Supervisory experience
  • Formal training or certifications in the library technical services or electronic services fields
  • Demonstrated record of publication and professional contributions
Anticipated Hiring Range

Salary is determined by a variety of factors, including but not limited to, the individual's particular combination of education, skills, and experience, as well as organizational requirements.
