Job Description

The History Department at the University of Missouri-St. Louis invites applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Assistant Teaching Professor, with open areas of specialization. Dynamic and inclusive teaching practices and a commitment to supporting the success of students from diverse background are high priorities. The successful candidate will have teaching experience in post-secondary education, demonstrating familiarity with creative approaches to teaching United States/or World History. The ideal candidate will also contribute to campus and community-based public and digital humanities programs.

The new faculty member will build connections with community partners, including National History Day and the Advanced Credit Program. The ideal candidate will be able to teach methods courses required for the major and upper-level courses in their specialty area.

This position is a one-year, non-tenure track, benefits eligible appointment with possibility of annual reappointment and promotion through the ranks of associate and full teaching professor. Faculty in NTT positions contribute 80% of their time to teaching and 20% to service at the departmental, college, and university levels. The expected teaching load for this position is 4/4 with the potential for summer teaching opportunities.

Responsibilities:

  • 4-4 teaching load including courses in U.S. and World History
  • Online and in-person teaching

Coordination of annual National History Day events on campus or comparable service.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:
* Doctoral degree in history, or a related discipline
* Evidence of successful instructional experience at the university level for both in-person and online teaching

Candidates will be evaluated on:
* Prior experience teaching U.S. or World History at a university level
* Knowledge of archival collections and museums in the St. Louis Area
* Experience in Digital Humanities.
