The Manager - Actuarial Services has extensive experience as a health actuary and has responsibility of leading both certified and non-certified actuarial staff. This role is responsible for managing staff to develop and deliver actuarial work products under multiple initiatives across GEHA's product portfolio.

SKILLS

* Manages actuarial staff to deliver required work products across multiple initiatives and product portfolio.
* Responsible for facilitating professional development of actuarial staff balancing actuarial education and certification requirements, technical skill development and work product deliverables.
* Responsible for effective staff performance management and evaluations.
* Accountable for complex actuarial model development with independent autonomy.
* Provides peer review for work products delivered from other actuarial staff.
* Actuarial Services leader in collaboration with business partners, such as Product Development, Finance and Clinical Operations.
* Align to and be a champion for GEHA's Data Governance and Data Architecture framework.
* Incorporate file control totals, benchmark comparisons, statistical profiling and other appropriate techniques to ensure quality and reliability of results.
* Document process and assumptions for work products according to actuarial standards of practice.
* Handle all data in accordance with HIPAA, departmental and corporate guidelines to safeguard privacy and confidentiality.

Requirements

* Requires a four-year degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or other quantitative discipline.
* Additional relevant experience may be considered in lieu of education.

* 7+ years of experience in actuarial science in health insurance or health practice of consulting firm.
* ASA certification (Associateship in Society of Actuaries) or FSA certification (Fellowship).
* Capability to lead people either through direct experience or demonstrable experience of mentorship over actuarial staff.
* Experience with data extraction technology (such as SQL).
* Ability to multi-task effectively, responding to changing priorities and deadlines.
* Highly effective verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
* Knowledge with translating analytics into meaningful insights.

Preferences

* Experience with people management
* Experience with data visualization tools (Power BI, Tableau, Qlik)
* Advanced level of knowledge in research and analytics
* Advanced statistical techniques for analyzing large datasets

Work-at-home requirements

  • Must have the ability to provide a non-cellular High Speed Internet Service such as Fiber, DSL, or cable Modems for a home office.
  • A minimum standard speed for optimal performance of 30x5 (30mpbs download x 5mpbs upload) is required.
  • Latency (ping) response time lower than 80 ms
  • Hotspots, satellite and wireless internet service is NOT allowed for this role.
  • A dedicated space lacking ongoing interruptions to protect member PHI / HIPAA information

Please note that the salary information is a general guideline only. GEHA considers factors such as (but not limited to) scope and responsibilities of the position, candidate's work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, as well as, market and business considerations when extending an offer.

The annual base salary range for this position is $129,480 - $182,520 USD.
